CIVIL SERVANTS, MANAGERS, GOVERNMENTS, SHOULD NOT BE REPRESENTED BY THE BMA
“In a statement to Channel 4 News Mr Johnson said that he wrote the letter to support Sir Liam Donaldson, the chief medical officer, who had come under “unfair attack for failing to give leadership over the MTAS fiasco”.
As a civil servant he was not in a position to defend himself, or to “apologise on behalf of the government for what amounts to a failure of policy”, said Mr Johnson.
“I wrote the letter to offer a bit of support. I did not consult others because it is not BMA policy to oppose the chief medical officer,” he said.
The Witch Doctor has a problem with this.
Sir Liam Donaldson in his present position is a civil servant. He speaks for the government of the day. Often a difficult dichotomy. He knows this. It is part of the job. In this capacity he should not be represented by the BMA.
The Witch Doctor also has a problem with Medical Directors, and Clinical Directors.
Doctors choose to apply for these explicitly managerial positions.
In doing so, they also, indirectly, speak for the government of the day.
In this capacity, they should not be represented by the BMA.
Members of the BMA do not pay their dues in order to support the government of the day.
Do they?
Do they?
The Witch Doctor hopes this is the real reason why Mr Johnson “resigned” from his post.
The Witch Doctor hopes the BMA told him to go.
The Witch Doctor hopes the BMA makes it clear to civil servants, managers and government officials, that it does not represent them.
The Witch Doctor hopes the BMA makes it clear to its members that the annual fees they pay are not used to support civil servants, managers and government officials.
Immediately.
