Then maybe you should. Because as sure as night follows day, this will impinge greatly on patient care and professionalism within the NHS.
Nothing wrong with an extra pair of helping hands.
However, this competency based system will creep.
The creeping has begun.
On 17 January 2006, there was a meeting in the Kensington Marriott Hotel, London to inform delegates about the underlying concepts of the NHS National Practitioner Programme. A presentation was given by Robert Standfield, Lead Workforce Designer, National Practitioner Programme.

The National Practitioner Programme involves in creating new roles by taking on selected tasks normally done by a variety of traditional roles. These roles fit somewhere into the career framework outlined in yesterdays post.
Where exactly do they fit?
The word “practitioner” appears from level 4 to level 8. Level 8 is called “CONSULTANT PRACTITIONER” There is no reference however to “Medical Consultant”
The term “consultant” as we know it has disappeared.
The Witch Doctor has a notion that they are hidden in level 9. The ones who get the blame for anything going wrong. Just enough of them for that purpose. And to have full “on call” accountability - whatever that means. Covering all the weekends and public holidays perhaps when everyone else has sloped off? Surely not!
The National Practitioner Programme is drawing together various “practitioner” developments into a much bigger competency based programme that is climbing up the ladder!

SPC - Surgical Care Practitioner
PSP - Perioperative Specialist Practitioner
AS - Anaesthetic Practitioner
MCP -Medical Care Practitoner
ECP - Emergency Care Practitioner
CCP - Critical Care Practitoner
etc. etc. including assistant practitioners.
The Witch Doctor is very, very interested in the National Practitioner Programme.
The Witch Doctor is going to become competent in this area.
The Witch Doctor is gradually going to learn everything there is to know about the National Practioner Programme.
In the Witch Doctor’s usual messy, haphazard, incompetent way.
The Witch Doctor will try to share this developing competency with you.
