There are many names currently used within the National Practitioner Programme. (NPP)

One of these is Medical Care Practitioner

The Medical Care Practitioner - WHAT THEY CAN DO:

“An MCP can:

1. Formulate and document a detailed differential diagnosis having taken a history and completed a physical examination.

2. Develop a comprehensive patient management plan in light of the individual characteristics, background and circumstances of the patient.

3. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and prescribe medications (subject to the necessary legislation).

4. Request and interpret diagnostic studies and undertake patient education, counselling and health promotion.

Glory be!

Who wrote these words?

Did they think about what is involved in this?

Really involved?

Whatever it is, it is not a fistful of competencies.

Its the end stage of an MBChB degree!

When Dr Sixties Sideburns and Dr Flower Power were junior doctors they had behind them 6 years of full time learning before they could do all that. And even after that they were and are still learning!

And sometimes get it wrong! - Still!

A bit thick, these doctors.

Or maybe patients are different now.

Ah!

There were no expert patients then.

Maybe, nowadays, all the expert patients write the diagnosis on their forehead in their own hand, before they approach a Medical Care Practitioner.

Eh?
