Keep at arm’s length

A BLUE BOTTLE SPELL

A cheeky witch somewhere is trying it on with a Blue Bottle Spell.

She’s attempting to change the old Blue Bottle Spell word “quango” for another Blue Bottle Spell term - “arm’s length bodies.”

“The Department operates through a number of arm’s length bodies, such as Monitor and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). These organisations regulate the health and social care system, improve standards, protect public welfare and support local services. The Department is midway through a rationalisation programme to reduce the number of arm’s length bodies from 38 to 19.”

38 divided by two gives 19.

The number of quango’s is to be halved.

Funny that.

Sound’s as if a committee said out of the blue, “Let’s just half the number of quangos.”

Sound’s as if the committee didn’t say, “Which of these very important bodies can we do without?”

Surely the 50% that are to be culled were doing some good?

Surely.

Anyway, I like this spell.

It takes a witch to detect a witch in action.

I wish I’d thought of that one first.

I hate the term Quango. (A bit amusing, though.).

I also hate the term “Monitor”

Almost as much as I hate the term “Regulator”

Orwellian!
