Doctors toppling off the escalator

witch2.jpg

“Competence, like truth, beauty and contact lenses, is in the eye of the beholder.”

UNREALISTIC?

The Witch Doctor played another silly little game yesterday.

A game similar to the one when he/she pretended to be CMO.

This game involved The Witch Doctor becoming the Prime Minister.

The Witch Doctor/Prime Minister Pretender.

The Witch Doctor/Prime Minister Pretender pretended that doctors were a troublesome bunch.

The Witch Doctor/Prime Minister Pretender wanted to undermine the monopoly power of physicians.

How could this be possible if there was to be a shortage of doctors?

Difficult.

Difficult, but not impossible.

A challenge.

Ah, the key phrase:

“The report estimates that, if 20% of the work of junior doctors and GPs passed to Nurse Practitioners, the potential shortfall in the number of doctors would be eliminated. 20% is, on the basis of research in general practice, at least, a fairly conservative estimate, and should be easily achievable.”

If this is easily acheivable, then it might be possible to overshoot it a little and have doctors surplus to requirment.

To have some of the doctors topple off the escalator.

Too many doctors means the principle of supply and demand results in less powerful doctors. More malleable doctors. Cheaper doctors.

Cheaper doctors means more money is available for the semi-skilled workers when they skip up the escalator.

Hm……

If only we could be sure we can attract an extra 75,000 skilled and unskilled workers as well as replacing those lost in the demographic time bomb.

If only we could be sure they will skip up the escalator in sufficient numbers.

If only we can be sure someone else dosn’t grab them.

Can we be sure of that, My Black Cat?

No?

You think it is a very high risk strategy?

We can’t risk losing the doctors then, can we?

Should we start being nice to them, My Black Cat?

In case we need them after all?
