THE 360 Degree Thing - The Facilitators

WHAT THE FACILITATORS DO

You say you didn’t find out much more about the Raters, but the Facilitators are an interesting bunch?

In what way, My Black Cat?

They don’t seem to be doctors. Up till now, when a consultant is appraised, the appraiser is another consultant. When a GP is appraised, the appraiser is another GP. The facilitators are different - they seem to have some kind of HR or psychology or nursing background.

The facilitator’s role is to arrange a feedback session with the participant. However, the facilitator attends the session having seen the Raters’ reports, but the participant will not have seen these.

What exactly does the facilitator do, My Black Cat?

Only they know. They do what they were told to do during their training.

What training?

“Only those facilitators who have been trained in the use of the Right Management 360-degree tool (either via internal trainers or trainers from Right Management) are eligible to provide feedback. Following the training, your name will be added to the NHS Feedback Facilitator database.”

Did you find the NHS Feedback Facilitator database, My Black Cat?

Yes?

There are lots of people on it?

How many?

Too many to count.

I’d better look for myself.

FACILITATORS DATABASE

Ah……

A search for Faciltators for the East Midlands area who are willing to facilitate clinicians in the NHS identified about 85 names. Just over 30 charge a fee for facilitating, the remainder do not.

Here is the Job Title and Organisational Name of the first 10 on the list.

Head of Professional Development NHS / No fee
Leadership Development Facilitator NHS / Fees may apply
Organisational Development Consultant / Private Consultancy / Fee
Professional Development Coordinator / NHS / No Fee
PEC Chair and Clinical Governance Lead / NHS / No Fee
Training Manager / NHS / Fees may apply
Senior Training Manager / NHS / Fees
AHP Operational Lead / NHS / No fee
Service Improvement Consultant / NHS / Fees may apply
Deputy Director Of Nursing / NHS / No fee

So far, we’ve found no doctors as facilitators, so all the training the consultants were given so they could appraise others might turn out to be a waste of time.

We said that then, didn’t we?

We’re not often wrong, My Black Cat.

Who or what is “Right Management”, I wonder……………………
