The NHS could learn a thing or two from them, couldn’t they?
Every self respecting Egyptian always wore a talisman, an amulet, a charm, a mascot - call it what you will.
Just as we witches have our not competency based Aide Memoire Amulets.
The NHS needs to do likewise if it wants even to begin to tackle MRSA and other hospital infections.

The eye that is always watching - The ancient Egyptian equivalent of The Modern Matron.
Yes, an NHS Handwashing Amulet!
A fresh new one to be distributed to every single member of staff caring for patients every 6 months.
Not as aesthetically pleasing as some of the old fiaence Egyptian amulets of course - more along the lines of a strudy laminated card to carry in the pocket everywhere (assuming, of course, that the new- not-white-coat-short-sleeved-communal-uniform-substitute-to-confound-the-recognition-of-doctors, will have pockets!).
Yes!
And every “Health Care Professional” should be told they must read the contents of their amulet SEVEN TIMES A DAY.
And they should carry it with them SEVEN DAYS A WEEK.
Everyone.
Always.
That would do the trick!
One side of the amulet will have An Aide Memoire on hand washing and a Lucky number.
There will be a Prize Draw every six months for £1 million.
Paid for by sacrificing a small consultancy here and there. Yes, have this instead of some of the “NHS Partners.”
But the winner will only get the money if they can demonstrate how to wash their hands so.. so…. beautifully…..
If the winner demonstrated bad handwashing technique, there would be a lottery rollover to £2m next time round.
Yes……. That would focus minds.
And divert some money from Cloud Cuckoo Land to reality.
There now, as good citizens we have partly solved the handwashing problem for Gordon Brown……..
What will we print on the back of the “Lottery Winning HandWashing Aide-Memoire Amulet,” My Black Cat?
So that we can finalise the solution to “Hospital Acquired Infection.”
