Potent spells and pumpkin pie

PREPARATIONS FOR THE BIG NIGHT

We don’t have much time, My Black Cat.

My new potent Hallowe’en spell is not perfect yet. It’s too dangerous.

You’ll need to do the baking this year.

Look out an old recipe for pumpkin pie while I get this right!

MY BLACK CAT’S PUMPKIN PIE

“Mix together 1/2 breakfastcupful of castor sugar, 1 teaspoonful of salt, 1 teaspoonful of mixed spices to taste such as nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon, 2 and a 1/2 breakfastcupfuls of boiled or steamed squash, which has been passed through a sieve, and 1 beaten egg.

Add gradually about two cupfuls of milk.

Line a flat dish with puff-paste, pour in the squash mixture, and bake in a quick oven at first, reducing the heat as the pie gets cooked.

You may want to sprinkle the top with grated nutmeg or cinnamon before baking. On the other hand you may not. Please yourself.

When done, sift castor sugar over the top and serve.”

You’ve never made pumpkin pie before?

We’ll now’s your chance, My Black Cat.

I hope it works, or we’ll be the laughing stock of the witching community.

Last week I bought a really huge pumpkin from the supermarket for 99p! So, yesterday we had a pumpkin feast never to be repeated again for the rest of my life!

I cooked pumpkin everything; creamed soup of course, rice with pumpkin, cashew nuts and black lentils served with chicken breast fried in egg and breadcrums, Mixed mediterranean vegetable salad with feta cheese and shavings of raw pumpkin dressed with olive oil and lemon, pumpkin sorbet with ice cream :-) simply sauteed pumpkin in unsalted butter, demerara suger, a vanella pod, add water then liquidise and freeze to ice cream consistancy and serve with vanilla ice cream. Also sauteed mixed vegetables with nutmeg (With pumpkin of course) I also tried your reciepe Witch doctor and it is beautiful; looks great and tastes better than any pumpkin pie I have ever tasted :-)

Hope you had a good time flying on your broomstick yesterday, as always, you must’ve seen things we ordinary folk can not see ;-) did black cat take the world flying tour with you? I wonder what did she see? I suppose I will have to wait n read here of course :-)

You’ve been even busier than My Black Cat with your pumpkin party. The feast sounds delicious. We’re definitely going to try the sorbet.

I’m glad you liked the pumpkin pie - its an old recipe - from the 1930’s I think.

Yes My Black Cat usually comes with me on the broomstick. We see and hear everything and have lots more to report.
