I don’t know your specialty witch doctor but if you were a GP, what do you think of this supermarket GP idea? for and against please :) I can not comprehend this at all … but I am not a doctor.

Sam,

I think this is very complex. There are two things driving the changes that we’re seeing just now. Firstly a genuine concern over demographic change. There are simply not going to be enough doctors to look after the sick and so alternatives have to be found e.g. changing roles of pharmacists and nurses and of course great enthusiasm for the new hospital practitioner grades.

The problem is, the search for alternatives is overshooting and now becoming ridiculous. This bizarre situation is probably intentional and related to those waiting in the wings - huge multi-national healthcare companies that are keen to use the UK as the European precedent. A great amount of money is to be made. They will want cheap labour though.

The government is drip drip dripping inuendo to patients and “clients” that GP’s are bad and private enterprise is good. They are wooing the public and “using” non-medical healthcare workers unfairly by flattering them and allowing them to work beyond the limits of their capability. They are largely succeeding in making the unacceptable acceptable.

Perhaps the well “clients” should go to the supermarkets and the “patients” to their GP’s who might as a result have more time to to look after the sick.

Unfortunately it is not always easy to distinguish between clients and patients, though.

PS This is just one witch’s view of course. GP or not, the great thing about The Broomstick is that we witches get a great birds-eye view across all the specialties! :-)

I thought it was all about making the NHS lucrative enough for the big corporate giants too. It is so sad. I am waiting to see what the CMO will say on Friday but, although he should be held to account, he was also set up IMO.
