Scouring for evidence

THE BEACH COMBERS

The Witch Doctor has ways of getting information.

It usually involves The Broomstick, The Book of Spells and The Spell Pantry.

Sometimes The Witch Doctor has to jump on The Broomstick and go to the most outlandish places and search, search, search.

And often we have to pretend we are The Humankind in order to obtain our information.

We disguise ourselves.

Because we witches spook ordinary folk!

THE WITCH DOCTOR IN DISGUISE LOOKING FOR CLUES

My Black Cat has her ways too.

It usually involves smelling a rat and then catching it.

But sometimes My Black Cat has to jump on The Broomstick and go to the most outlandish places and search, search, search.

She is not allowed on The Good Broomstick though.

She only gets the ones that are past their prime -The Dilapitated Ones.

Unless we fly together.

MY BLACK CAT IN DISGUISE LOOKING FOR CLUES

Sometimes, though, we don’t use The Broomsticks, new or old, The Book of Spells or The Spell Pantry.

Sometimes we are truly modern witches and black cats.

Then we use “Google.”

The Witch doctor will tell you soon what we found when we googled “Liam Donaldson” and then “CMO” along with one other name.

Be patient.

We’ll tell you.

Soon.

When we get round to it.

And if we can be bothered.

[...] Scouring for evidence [...]

Where can I buy patience witch doc?! Never was one of my virtues, so … I have been ‘I spying with my little eye’ around your very early entries, the 2nd one … I had read this before but, it sounds important to discuss now, this bit in particular:

“We shall probably see fewer of these (service) posts which are really designed within local organisations to meet a service need because {we are going to see an expansion of training posts following on from the medical school expansion.} I do not like that description, and neither do you by the way you asked the question, but we do have to remember that there are many doctors today, for family reasons or work/life balance attitudes, who do not necessarily want to go on to become principals in general practice or consultants.”

But in the HSC meeting 5, the workforce planners clearly said there won’t be an increase in the number of posts and that the use of ‘others’ would subsitute … Can you explain this?

Could things have been hidden from the CMO when he said the above quoted?

For what its worth Sam, my view is, that the CMO probably knows more than any doctor in the land what EXACTLY is going on. If things have been hidden from him, he will have his ear to the ground and will have worked it all out. His problem is he can’t talk about it. And he definitely can’t appear to be critical. He is a Government servant and they will only listen when he says what they want to hear. The rest will fall on deaf ears. It seems to me that all we can do is “read between the lines” when he speaks or writes. If you do that, what he says can be quite interesting and occasionally bizarre.

The CMO persistently says “we need more doctors.” This is a key phrase. My interpretation is he is being realistic about the fact that many women will not want consultant posts or GP partnerships and yet he believes in a service delivered by fully trained doctors. I have not yet come across him acknowledging the National Practitioner Programme. He side-stepped a question on nursing numbers in that committee too, I think. Did he know then about the plans for overseas doctors being excluded? Surely. Did he approve of the way it was being done? Or MTAS? Who knows. Was he frustrated by The London College over the fact they were saying we are overproducing doctors (remember the term – “Competent Clinical Decision Maker” was introduced by this college). Maybe.

Who knows?

This Witch Doctor thinks he is a victim of government hubris. (See tonight’s post).

Maybe I’ll change my mind next week, though, once I get round to HSC5!

This is really baffling! He did say there will be more training posts as more medics graduate!

I’ll now read you new post and await what you think of HSC5 (Only the 2nd part is available in audio)

What is striking in that session is how ‘confident’ the employers and the planners are despite the clear contradition to what the CMO said as per your first 2 posts!
