It is still the case that in every hospital in the UK, together the consultants are the most powerful group. Together they can change whatever they want to change. Why? Because at the end of the day, they alone carry overall responsibility for each one of their patients. They cannot turn a blind eye to neglect, but they need to be close enough to their patients to see it. They can only be close enough to their patients if they have their fingers firmly on the pulse of every one of them. That is why this witch believes firmly in a Consultant Delivered Service.
NOT a Consultant Led Service nor a Consultant Based Service which can mean anything at all.
Or nothing at all.
A CONSULTANT DELIVERED SERVICE.
