Opinion Leader Research – costs

ARITHMETIC

You’ve found some more information to put on my “Sums” page, My Black Cat?

Good. What’s that?

Some written questions in Hansard about Deborah Mattinson’s company, Opinion Leader Research.

Mark Hoban:
“To ask the Secretary of State for Health what the (a) value and (b) purpose was of each payment made by her Department to Opinion Leader Research since 1997.”

Ivan Lewis:
The Department paid the following amounts to Opinion Leader Research.

2002-03………….. £47,762.59
2003-04………….. £68,859.25
2004-05………….. £48,175.00
2005-06 ………….. £4,772.86
2006-07 ………….. £71,674.99
2007-08(to May)… £70,500.00
The company was commissioned to undertake a number of studies to support and inform policy development within the Department.
Data for earlier years is not readily available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

There’s another Hansard question relating to OLR payment for research relating to the Ministry of Justice, is there?

Oh forget about that, My Black Cat. Stay focused. Our remit is the NHS.

Is the £70,500 figure for 2007 – 2008 related to the Citizens’ Juries, My Black Cat?

Maybe?

The account given by Pulse is that the Birmingham meeting alone cost almost that:

“The department calculated the day cost between £55,000 and £60,000.”

And there’s to be another 8 or 9 of these meetings throughout the country.

Are the citizens of the UK paying for this?

The very citizens sitting on the Juries?

So they’re not really being bribed, is that what you’re saying.

The £75 in the envelope was just an income tax refund.

I suppose so.

I’m glad it wasn’t a bribe.

Will the medical staff that were there get a tax refund too, then?

You expect so? In due course.

You’ll need to get the abacus out, My Black Cat.

My head’s spinning.

It’s all a bit weird. And I can’t count any more.
