The Golden Egg

KILLING THE GOOSE……

We would be the first to moan that the NHS is far from perfect.

Wouldn’t we, My Black Cat?

We have seen the good, the bad and the ugly of the NHS.

The ugly is very ugly.

We have seen the ugliness both as patients and as staff.

We have stories to tell about the ugliness and mediocrity. But we seldom do. It is not very productive.

We know, too, why the ugliness and mediocrity happens.

THE NHS GOOSE IS STILL CAPABLE OF LAYING A GOLDEN EGG

But we often see Something Approaching Perfection within the NHS.

It happens so quietly it sometimes it takes a witch to notice it.

Efficiency, caring, compassion.

Excellence aspired to and grasped.

Something approaching perfection.

We saw it today.

A patient saw it too.

Not a client.

A patient.

No-one else noticed. No one will report it. It is not newsworthy.

But it happened.

This SAP is the life-blood of the NHS. It goes largely unrecognised because it is so diluted.

The SAP does not flow freely throughout the NHS. It is sprinkled like particles of gold dust flowing through the blood of the NHS. Not everywhere. Often in unexpected places.

Because of this, we still believe that the NHS has the potential of becoming the Golden Egg of Health Care.

More than it ever was.

Internationally.

Globally.

If we did not believe this to be true, if we did not see the SAP flowing, and if we did not believe that the government is slowly and systematically throttling the goose, then we would not waste our time writing this blog.

Would we, My Black Cat?

We have other things to do aplenty.
