DATA MINES – a new commodity?

witch10.jpg

COMMODITY OR SURVEILLANCE OR BOTH?

The Witch Doctor has heard of coal mines, copper mines, diamond mines and gold mines.

The Witch Doctor is always learning.

“DATA MINES”

Here are a couple of examples from today’s “Telegraph.”

NEW ANTI-TERRORISM RULES “ALLOW US TO SPY ON BRITISH MOTORISTS

Last night, Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader, said: “This confirms that this Government is happy to hand over potentially huge amounts of information on British citizens under the catch-all pretext of ‘national security’.”

Civil liberties campaigners said they were appalled that images of innocent people’s journeys could end up in the hands of the British police, let alone foreign investigators.

They feared that it was a move towards the US-style system of “data mining” – in which powerful computers sifted millions of pieces of information as they tried to build patterns of behaviour and match them to material about suspects.”

IS A DATA MINE AS USEFUL AS THIS?

And more mining:

GOVERNMENT TO QUIZ HOUSEHOLDS ON SEX LIVES AND SALARIES

“Inspectors will ask the questions as part of the new Integrated Household Survey.

They will visit 200,000 homes at random each year and question each occupant, meaning that about 500,000 individuals will take part.

One of the questions asks: “Have you ever had a baby – even one who only lived for a short time?”

Interviewers are warned: “Exclude: Any stillborn; Include: Any who only lived for a short time.”

The survey features intimate questions on exact dates when relationships ended, and the precise amount of money people take home.

There will also be 35 questions on contraception, such as whether men have had vasectomies, the brands of Pill women use, and whether they have ever taken the morning-after Pill.”

The work of the Data Miners in this Data Mine will cost UK citizens £3.5 million per annum.

Apparently.

Wonder who will use this data?

And for what purpose?

Will the data be bought and sold?

To recoup some of the £3.5m taxpayer’s money every year?

Like a commodity?

Who knows!

Would you answer the Data Miner’s questions, My Black Cat?

You would lie, wouldn’t you.

That’s how we witches and our Black Cats deal with intrusive Data Miners.

With disdain!
