Darzi – on revolutions and common purpose

witchround

When you are a twin, you see twins everywhere. But no-one else notices.

When you drive an old Volkswagen Bus, you see them everywhere. But no-one else notices.

When you are contemplating “Common Purpose,” you see the words everywhere. But no-one else notices.

SOME THINGS ARE EVERYWHERE WHEN THOUGHTS FOCUS THE EYES

No sooner has the Witch Doctor asked the question,

“I wonder if Lord Darzi has heard of Common Purpose?”

and she find this as if by magic (via Dr Grumble’s shared reading feed):

A TIME FOR REVOLUTIONS – THE ROLE OF CLINICIANS IN HEALTH CARE REFORMS

Here it is – “common purpose”

“Similarly, placing professional responsibility for health outcomes in the hands of clinicians, rather than bureaucrats or insurance companies with vested interests, must be the ambition of any new structure in the United States. Such an approach will lead to a health care system that has a democratic mandate and clinical leadership.

U.S. clinicians should bear three things in mind as they consider how to approach this debate. First, politicians must be made to recognize the role of clinical leaders in shaping a transformed but effective health care system. If clinicians can redefine the debate so that it focuses first and foremost on patients and health outcomes, that will provide a strong common purpose for efforts to tackle the challenges of funding structures and access”

Of course, My Black Cat is jumping up and down with excitement. She thinks this is all part of The Great Big Conspiracy of Common Purpose, but we witches know usage in this context is just co-incidence using a term (common purpose with no capital letters) that is becoming increasingly part of the worldwide vocabulary.

Ignoring “Common Purpose,” this article in the New England Journal of Medicine by someone called Ara Darzi, aimed at USA health care, is worth a detailed read.
