Safeguarding children

witchround

The Old Bailey? 10 year olds? 8 year old? Age of understanding? Age of responsibility? Rape? Attempted rape? Playing doctors and nurses? Reliability of evidence? Sentencing? Criminalisation of children? Media? Psychological damage? Society’s problem?

Society’s problem.

Society’s problem.

Society’s problem.

And so the debate will follow.

Safeguarding Children – Oh sure! But lets ignore sexual abuse if it is a teacher and pupil??!

You think they are a funny lot at Ofsted?

What do you mean by funny, My Black Cat? Are they amusing you, or are they perplexing you?

They are perplexing you……….

We can’t have you perplexed, My Black Cat. Have we not been muttering on about Ofsted now and then as we grapple with our Intertwinglemets?

What is perplexing you is something quite different?

“Exclusive: Channel 4 News has uncovered eight specific instances where Ofsted reports failed to highlight cases of sexual abuse involving school teachers. Ofsted say it does not report on cases of “inappropriate behaviour”.

The investigation found cases where the education regulator did not highlight in its inspection reports of schools where teaching staff in England had either been convicted or were awaiting trial for sexual offences against pupils.”

In many cases Ofsted gave the schools positive ratings for their “safeguarding” procedures.”

This world is going mad, My Black Cat.

Mad.

Tick-box-mad.

Protocol-mad.

Lack-of-judgement-mad.

Lack-of-common-sense-mad

  1. Typical tick-box governance – and a clear example of why tick-box governance is not just useless. but positively dangerous – because it misleads.

Click the C4 link, cut and paste it into Word, and do the necessary find & replace (Ofsted -> CQC, teacher -> doctor, parent -> relative, school -> hospital etc) and you have the identical story, only now it is set in the NHS.

  2. I came across the startling statistic that 25% of girls leaving local authority care at 16 are pregnant. I wonder what’s below that particular iceberg. Is anything being done about it or investigated? Does anyone know?
