Well, were you happy being nudged today?

They all seemed to be keen on one particular post in WD today:

ACTION FOR HAPPINESS

The reason?

It didn’t take My Black Cat long to work out that this is the launch of the charity “Action for Happiness”

However, it is not possible to link to their website at the moment.

This is what they say:

“Thank you so much for visiting the site.

We’re experiencing extra-ordinary levels of traffic, so you may not get on to the site right away, but we’re working on it!

Please leave your details and we’ll let you know when we’re back up.”

My Black Cat being a suspicious soul thinks this is contrived just to get information regarding those demonstrating an interest. She even wonders if all the activity on Twitter is being generated by Common Purpose graduates worldwide.

I told her not to be stupid and sent her to go out and catch some real rats, not imaginary ones.

The Witch Doctor thinks “happiness” is a wonderful yet elusive thing and is intrigued that we may be witnessing the birth of “A New Religion” which might succeed where all other religions seem to have failed. After all they say the Dalai Llama is supporting the new venture.

On the other hand, taking into account the parentage of “Action for Happiness” it is possible there could be a highly political agenda indirectly related to what we posted yesterday.

“Action for Happiness” could be designed to nudge those who are unemployed, under-employed, or retired to tip-toe up the slippery competency stairs of The Skills Escalator and work for nothing. Volunteers are necessary if the demanding health and social care in the community is to become a profitable commodity for “any willing provider” or “any qualified provider.”

It could, I suppose, be considered to be a kind of social engineering, My Black Cat.

While the “Action for Happiness” website is down for whatever reason, My Black Cat suggests you read this website instead.

There is some interesting background regarding the triplets who are behind this movement.

THE THREE WISE MEN BEHIND ACTION FOR HAPPINESS

“That is the irony of the Action for Happiness movement: it sounds like a popular movement, but actually the whole idea of it is that ordinary people don’t know how to be happy, and have to be told how, by technocrats, apparatchiks, statisticians and political insiders like Mulgan, Seldon and Layard.

Action for Happiness involves, basically, armies of ‘happiness experts’ going out to tell the ignorant masses how to be happy, teaching them how to meditate and keep gratitude journals, like missionaries teaching savages how to pray. It seems to me the wise men want to go back to before the Reformation, that sudden demotic fragmentation of European society, and to bring all of Europe back together beneath a new, secular, rational and scientific church of well-being.”

  1. Well spotted, WD. The post you link to (“The Three Wise Men…”) is well worth a read. Dr No was so impressed, he even added a comment!

For those who can’t wait to get happy, and can’t be arsed to give their personal details to the happiness brigade, google’s cache is the easiest way to visit the ‘action for happiness’ website (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:jbJOAbcVwp4J:www.actionforhappiness.org).

  2. Even the cache is now overwhelmed with happiness, Dr No!

WD has now also added a comment to the “Three Wise Men” post as a result of one My Black Cat’s rat hunting escapades.

  3. Hooray, hooray!

MBC and me are happy! The Action for Happiness Website is back up and running!
