Is UK democracy as dead as a dodo?

My Black Cat loves conspiracies.

For some time now she has been telling The Witch Doctor that there would be armed police in the streets threatening dissenters.

The Witch Doctor just laughed because she does not believe in conspiracies.

Creep is more her scene.

Of course, Creep can lead to guns in the streets.

Machine guns.

Twitter was all atweet over the weekend with photographs of armed police at what was probably a peaceful NHS demonstration.

The word “probably” is necessary because the respected news channels didn’t report it.

They-didn’t-report-it-at all.

Only the pesky social media reported it.

Now why on earth would that be?

And why on earth would police want to control NHS staff during a “probable” peaceful demonstration, just as the controversial Health and Social Care Bill progresses tomorrow to the critical third reading in the House of Lords.

Here are some responses from the medical blogosphere.

FOR YOU, DEMOCRACY IS OVER

DEMOCRACY IS DEAD

THE DEATH OF DEMOCRACY

It might be a good idea to watch this too:

The Professional Case for Withdrawing The Health and Social Care Bill from Daniel Saul on Vimeo.

And read what David Owen is saying in The Guardian.

NHS BILL: KEEPING PARLIAMENT IN DARK IS A CONSTITUTIONAL OUTRAGE

And then, if you can stomach it, you can read what one of the countries most influential Think Tanks is thicking thinking about the Bill.

Clue : they don’t like it because it doesn’t go far enough.

Another Clue : this is not a wind-up. They are deadly serious. They seem to be enraptured by the demi-god Milton Fried Man.

HOW TO ABOLISH THE NHS

Here is the question My Black Cat is asking me right now:

Is the UK about to witness not only the demise of the NHS, but the mode of death thrust upon it will also lead to the demise of democracy in the UK?

What is a witch supposed to tell her?

  1. Just been on the BBC Health front page. No mention of the third reading in the Lords today; you have to go to Mark D’arcy’s blog to find a summary of the week’s legislation. All health articles either have no HYS, or the comments have been closed. Yes, MBC is right and there is a conspiracy. I think there’s going to be an awful lot of trouble this year, when it dawns on people what has happened to the NHS and it won’t take long; there’s already buses in london avertising private ‘A&Es’.
