GPs COMING OUT OF THE CLOSET

Ah, My Black Cat, you’ve wakened me up momentarily from my week-long fireside snooze with your news.

The GPs in Rugby, (not the rugby playing GPs) are about to tackle the government.

Good.

“DOCTORS in Rugby will be taking to the streets to protest against what they believe could be the death of surgeries in the town.

In an unprecedented show of unification, General Practioners from all surgeries in Rugby will hold a protest next Saturday (March 8th) against plans for large centralised ‘Polyclinics’.”

Dr. Lesli Davies, of Clifton Road Surgery and organiser of the protest, said: “The Government is using extended hours as a smokescreen to hide their plans to sell off general practice to big businesses and continue the process of privatising the NHS.

“GPs are willing to provided services in the evening and at weekends.

“This deal was turned down by Number 10, and replaced with one which will see resources transferred from day time services to evenings, and which also decreases investment in quality.

“The Government is also threatening to take away resources from established modern family services to give money to private companies to set up.

“Polyclinics will be large impersonal clinics owned and run by private companies, whose loyalty will always be to shareholders first and not patients. Current general practice is continually shown to be cost-effective and delivers high quality.

“I am disappointed that the Government gives contracts to companies with scarce regard to the quality of patient care.”

SOMEONE HAS TO PAY FOR MARTINI HEALTH CARE

Yes, My Black Cat, the GPs are coming out of the closet.

The consultants should get up off their backsides and help them.

They will bury the late hours opening issue and come in from another angle.

They have now wakened up to the fact that the late hour opening lark is a trick. A despicable government trick to sway the public against GPs in order to make them receptive to the concept of polyclinics. The GPs (and all the medical profession) now must make sure members of the public know about the multi-nationals who are waiting in the wings.

Yes. Loads and loads of profit will be made from the worried well, and from the healthy and unworried clients who are looking for “Martini” health care. The clients who know very little about real illness but want to snap their fingers and expect the medical profession to jump.

We have no particular concern about clients paying for their Martini Health Care.

Do we. My Black Cat?

But we know very well that ill patients will get mixed up in this bun fight. They they will be the ones who will suffer.

The medical profession will not jump through hoops to meet the demands of the clients.

Not should they.

They will jump to the needs of their patients, though.

Real patients.

There are two different groups.

They should not be mixed up.

We couldn’t care less about the views of the clients.

We want ill people to be well cared for within the NHS.

But we’ll need more doctors to diagnose the difference between The Real Patients and The Martini Health Care Clients.

That’s the way rationing should go.

Isn’t it, My Black Cat?
